Here at Fanbase Press, we strive to provide an outlet for up-and-coming creators to promote and showcase their incredible works. With thousands of creators utilizing crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo to make those works a reality, we will highlight these talented creators and their noteworthy campaigns through #CrowfundingFridays! Project #1: Monster Matador: Blood of the Matador #1-3
What it’s about: Born from out love of Mad-Max, Kaiju, and Santo, and… telenovelas?! The Monster Matador is an action-packed mash-up of all those things, with more than a few laughs to spare. Just don’t laugh at the Matador. He does not like to be laughed at.

Project #2: Start Your Engines #1
What it’s about: Start Your Engines #1 is a ROARING adventure 48-page comic following Dare Darrington, a former stunt driver turned race car driver facing rivals, saboteurs, and dinosaurs across two action-packed 24-page stories.

Project #3: Shonuff Showcase
What it’s about: Over his 20-year career in comics, David has had the lucky pleasure of being a part of Shonuff Studios, purveyors of kitschy pop culture collisions that amaze and entertain the senses.
David has some of his most comedic and cheeky writing ever, trying to keep up with the madness of the core of the studio, Terry and Halo Parr.
This 48-page collection, includes all of David’s writing for Shonuff Studios. A majority of the work was on Terry Parr’s hit series the ’80s retro action comic, Aerobicide the Extreme Ninja Workout, and the rockin’ cheesecake that is Gemini Force.

Project #4: BadWill Episode 2: Omaha
What it’s about: After her 8-year relationship abruptly ended, Cara Morris began selling off the belongings left behind by her ex. What started as a way to move on evolved into BadWill, a thrift store that only accepts donations from failed relationships.
Some donations are heartfelt. Some are ridiculous. Some probably should have been thrown directly into a fire.
Now that the store is up and running, Episode 2: Omaha builds on the foundation of Episode 1, expanding the cast, world, and storytelling scope of the series.
Inspired by workplace comedies and character-driven dramedies like The Office, Superstore, Parks & Recreation, and Ted Lasso, BadWill blends heartfelt storytelling with awkward humor, second chances, and the messy ways people try to move forward after life falls apart.

Project #5: Shrub: The Collected Edition
What it’s about: GLAAD Media Award-winning and Eisner and Harvey Awards-nominated publisher and media outlet Fanbase Press is proud to announce Shrub, an 8-issue Graphic Medicine series which will be crowdfunded by the publisher on Kickstarter.
In this middle grade adventure, readers will join Shrub who is, well… a shrub… for a cross-country trip to Hollywood! Join Shrub and a grieving brother and sister as they hit the open road in search of connection. On their journey, pit stops, wacky plant enthusiasts, uprooting, and re-routing abound.
The series was created and written by Emmy Award nominee Shane Portman (Tumble Leaf, Shape Island), illustrated by Andy Alves (Cosmic Cadets), colored by Sophia Du and Celia FitzGerald, lettered by Oceano Ransford (Eisner Award-nominated Rikki), and with consultation from comics librarian Moni Barrette.
Shrub explores the various ways that we allow grief to take root, inspired by writer Shane Portman’s experience with the loss of his father. The series features “Letting Grief Take Root” essays written by individuals with a personal and/or professional connection to grief who relate Shrub’s story to their own lived experience.
