With Godzilla finally making his grand appearance, this issue is turning out to be the creative team’s most chaotic!

The Station Square squad over at IDW has done it again, capturing the raw thematic energy behind Sonic and Godzilla, and channeling it into the series’ most powerful issue to date. With Sonic and friends doing their best to discourage the behemoths trampling through their city on the front lines, a more sinister “monster” lurks behind the scenes, working his technological magic to bring about an end to all life on Earth that would otherwise stand against his uprising.

Marino funnels his literary prowess yet again into this issue—but seemingly with the assistance of a Chaos Emerald, with turbulent, action-packed scenes devastating every corner of the page. It’s easily the most destructive comic thus far, but as always with Marino’s writing style, he strikes a beautiful balance between the havoc with much-needed moments of levity and classic hedgehog quips. And I’m also very happy to see a particular someone get a ton of screen time in this issue, but I won’t spoil it!

Lawrence goes to town as always with his art, and in conjunction with Graham’s coloring, creates a coalescence of creativity that shines amidst the grim happenings in Station Square. Alongside Dukeshire’s splendid lettering, it all comes together for one monstrous wonder for readers to engage with across the issue’s many splashes. Seeing as this is Godzilla’s first real appearance in the series, it’s been a joy to watch him hit the ground running (or perhaps stomping) across each district in all his colorful glory, surrounded by boisterous SFX. The amount of trust I’ve developed in this team in relation to their handling of these sacred intellectual properties leads me to believe they’d be excellent adapting this into any other medium.

Sonic x Godzilla #3 builds on the previous installment with plenty of monster mayhem to satisfy even the most gluttonous Godzilla fans.
