Ace and Zora’s escape from enslavement continues—but with a surprising twist in this gut-wrenching issue.
The runaway duo has finally found a bit of respite within a nearby dwelling away from the prying eyes of a malevolent faction, but inside it perhaps lies more harm than good. As the tension between Ace and Zora continues to ramp up, so, too, do the external forces hunting them down, bringing with them a squadron of highly motivated and dangerous robot assassins to capture them, no matter the cost.
I’m quite enamored by the pacing of this series and Allor’s ability to stretch out the story in a way that feels akin to the relationship between Ace and Zora; I’m enjoying the slower burn of Ace’s bold displays of authority and go-getting attitude hindering her ability to connect with Zora on a more vulnerable level. I always like to say that “everybody is running away from something,” and this feels very much like a probable cause for Ace’s behavior. Although I believe her vigilant nature serves them both well in their current predicament, you’re bound to get exhausted if you keep sprinting away from your emotions. I’m curious to see if this character arc unfolds the way I imagine.
As always, the artistry exhibited here surpasses my expectations with each subsequent issue. Blanco has a lockdown on high-caliber android action—of which this comic is full of, and the coloring provided by Peer accentuates the action in every panel. The lettering Allor does is also masterful, with bright red words used for emphasis in lieu of bold italics. My favorite moments are when certain words pop out at the reader with an increased font size to drive in the intensity of a conversation. Every member of the creative team excels in their respective field here.
Blüdwire #3 keeps its tightrope pace, fraught with peril around every page, and sure to keep you gunning for the next issue.
