It’s the comic crossover of the year nobody expected, but the one that everyone should be reading.

The universes of the Blue Blur and Godzilla collide in this action-packed introduction. In the midst of a routine battle between Sonic and Eggman in Station Square, a portal suddenly opens up, and out come Mothra and Mechagodzilla—with Sonic and his friends caught in the crossfire.

Jack Lawrence’s art works well to the story’s advantage, with huge swathes of splash pages to demonstrate the monstrosity and sheer size of the kaijus and their explosive encounter. They’re laying waste to surrounding buildings and razing everything to the ground as they smack, laser, and wallop one another. It’s clear as day that if you’re a fan of Godzilla, you’ll be happy to know they waste absolutely no time getting into the mix of things.

As a fan of Sonic myself and the IDW series, I’m beyond thrilled to see how these two worlds come together—especially since Sonic is a frequent fighter of kaiju-sized monsters in the form of Dr. Eggman’s many sinister contraptions. Although it remains to be seen if these two titular characters will face off or team up as the story progresses. I’m keen to see how it all plays out!

Sonic x Godzilla #1 is an adrenaline rush from beginning to end that is only rivaled by the speed of our favorite hedgehog.
