The team behind Mad Cave’s hit series, String, is back with an all-new comic rife with mayhem, a vibrant/funky world, and just all-around fun.

Welcome to Billowing City—a spattering of strange civilians, all afflicted with unique idiosyncrasies that range from farting on elevators to only eat peanuts for dinner. Among these peculiar individuals is Clara Castanelle, a chaotic and rather distractable woman with an affinity for uppercutting the gonads of any poor soul within striking distance. She works as an amateur sleuth, committed to doing good and helping others (so long as she can remember long enough).

The world Tobin, Olivares, and Coover have created is nothing short of incredible; each panel is jam-packed with panache, brought to life even further with the addition of Vivaldi’s superb coloring. There’s a level of vibrancy that perfectly illustrates the inimitable nature of the city’s hedonism, with flashing neon signs and bright billboards advertising strip clubs, bars, and outright illegal goods. Esposito’s dynamic lettering enhances the eccentric, driving in those “junk punches” for maximum pain.

All in all, I found Junk Punch #1 to be a beautifully bizarre introduction into the mind of its creators, and I am fervent to see more of its zaniness.
