The following is an interview with Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz regarding the recent Kickstarter campaign launch for The DC Art of Michael Turner in collaboration with Aspen Comics.  In this interview, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon chats with Kanalz about revisiting Turner’s catalog of DC artwork for the collection, the exciting reward tiers that backers of the campaign will have in store, and more!

Barbra Dillon, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief: Clover Press and Aspen Comics recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for The DC Art of Michael Turner, a coffee table book collecting the legendary artist’s extensive work with DC Comics. As you look ahead to the combined collection, what has been your experience in revisiting Turner’s body of work?

Hank Kanalz: At the time, I was more familiar with Turner’s DC work, so working with Aspen on The Marvel Art of Michael Turner book was a real treat. But then reviewing all the material for his DC book was like traveling back in time. Reading the pieces by his collaborators hit home, and so many of his iconic pieces reminded me of things that were happening at DC at the time.

BD: In addition to Turner’s cover work and illustrations, readers will be treated to a multitude of incredible extras in this collection. What are some of the added features that readers may anticipate with this deluxe edition?

HK: All editions feature a cloth ribbon bookmark and blue gilded edges. You also have an option for a dustjacket, or a handsome slipcase!

BD: In light of the Kickstarter campaign, what are some of the exciting reward tiers that will be available to backers?

HK: We have many print set options available, collected in themed packs. So much of Turner’s art deserves to be framed and on a wall. One of our posters really took me back – his take on the Titans, remastered by Peter Steigerwald, plus a gorgeous Supergirl poster!

BD: Are there any other projects – past or current – from Clover Press that you would like to highlight for our readers?

HK: It’s not too late to check out our newest campaign, The Marvel Art of Mike Zeck. What a legend! This is a comprehensive collection of his best work at Marvel. Secret Wars! Kraven! The Punisher!

We also have a new original graphic novel launching on Kickstarter on July 7 by Armored creator Michael Schwartz and Rachael Schaefer, illustrated by Gaia Cardinalli. It’s a romantic ghost story road trip, and a whole lot of fun! And it has a gorgeous cover by Eisner-winner Tula Lotay!

BD: Lastly, what is the best way for readers to learn more about The DC Art of Michael Turner and Clover Press?

HK: The best way is to head over to Kickstarter!
