Countdown to the Eisners: 2019 Nominees for Best Continuing Series

Fanbase Press’ coverage of the 2019 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards continues with the “Countdown to the Eisners” series. From Wednesday, May 29, through Wednesday, July 10, 2019, Fanbase Press will highlight each of the Eisner Awards’ 31 nomination categories, providing comic book industry members and readers alike the opportunity to learn more about the nominees and their work. Stay tuned for Fanbase Press’ continued coverage of the Eisner Awards, including live coverage of the ceremony at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 19.

The Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series has been awarded annually since 1998, and previous winners include Sandman (3 years in a row), 100 Bullets (twice), Saga (four times so far), and many more.

Here are the 2019 Eisner Award nominees for the Best Humor Publication category:

Batman by Tom King et al. (DC)

“King sets a new stage and tone for Batman and Gotham.” —PopMatters

Tom King (who just so happens to be an ex-CIA agent in addition to his roles as comic book writer and novelist) has gotten rave reviews for his run on Batman which sees the Dark Knight confronted by two new superheroes defending his home city: Gotham and Gotham Girl. The future will soon see King moving on from Batman to help build the cinematic DC universe, given the announcement that he’ll be co-writing New Gods with acclaimed director Ava DuVernay (When They See Us).
