Hammer Canyon Announces the Upcoming Release of ‘Hobo Code,’ an Original Audio Drama Rolling into Town with the Dust

Fanbase Press is excited to share the below news from Hammer Canyon Productions, as they announce the upcoming release of their original audio drama, Hobo Code, on Monday, March 4, 2024. The production boasts an incredible voice cast, superb composers and audio engineers, and an award-nominated writing staff! We hope that you’ll check out this fantastic production on March 4 wherever you listen to podcasts, and please be sure to give a listen to the trailer below!

Hop a freight train with two hobos, a little girl, and her best friend who lives in a coffee can in Hobo Code, a four-part, limited-series audio drama which will premiere on Monday, March 4, 2024. An epic journey spanning the Roaring Twenties to the Great Depression, and all the way to the Great Recession of 2008, audiences will hear how the trio’s experiences affect them decades later.

The debut podcast from Hammer Canyon Productions, created by Paul Pakler (Paul and Corey Cross the Streams) and Daytime Emmy-nominated writer Shane Portman (Tumble Leaf, Shape Island), stars Becky Poole (AppleTV’s Strange Planet), Corey Rieger (Out of the Furnace), and Jake Robertson (The Sound of Liberty on Apple Podcasts), with Susan Ruttan (L.A. Law, Shameless, Sprung) and Bill Pullman (The Sinner, Independence Day, While You Were Sleeping).

The series takes us to 1934, when eight-year-old Elizabeth “Buts” Wyland enlists the help of Gadabout Jack, an acerbic rambler, and Brother Isaac, a self-ordained monk, to run away from her aunt and uncle’s Alabama farm. The three travel America on a quixotic search for Buts’ parents in California.

It also features an original soundtrack composed by Maesa Pullman and engineered by Jason Hiller of Electrosound Records, featuring a full spectrum of folk, blues, and jazz music.

“In a world that’s moving so fast, this is a precious story that offers slowness and, with its music, feels like a folksy lullaby (with a hint of 1930s jazziness),” notes producer and assistant director Ruth Gamble. “We care about the characters in that same, slow way – spending time with them as they process the moments in their lives that mean the most. It’s surprising how we often try to run from some moments, and yet, unknowingly, we still carry them with us. And they can end up shaping who we are in the most foundational of ways.

If a podcast was made of paper mache and every torn piece of paper was placed with love, that would be this thoughtful story. Hobo Code is slowness and sweetness without shying away from the truth. It’s also pretty funny and has a love story too.”

The complete series will be available, in full for free, on Monday, March 4th, wherever you find podcasts.
