Saga is the incredible, new comic from Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples that follows the story of Marko and Alana, two lovers from different worlds that are at war with each other. Marko and Alana have a very big problem that comes in a very tiny package. You see, they just had a baby, and it is a very special little kid, because their races aren’t supposed to be able to procreate together, and now both of their home worlds want their kid and will go to any length to get it. That’s the lowdown on the story, but Saga is so much more than that.
Saga is also chock full of amazing art by Fiona Staples. She creates the most amazing and disturbing creatures from the sinister spider bounty hunter, the Stalk, to the awesome Prince Robot IV. Amidst the crazy, sci-fi fantasy stuff going on in this book, Staples and Vaughan have captured a human element that makes this comic easy to understand and hard not to fall in love with. Issue #7 continues the amazing story but also offers a nice recap for new readers who may be jumping in. Vaughan’s delightful sense of humor takes center stage this issue, as we get to see Alana meet her in-laws and Marko deal with his overly zealous mother. Not only is this series the best comic being made right now, but each issue is wonderful and completely stands on its own merits.
Saga #7 is a truly delightful read and a great starting point for new readers; however, if you’d like to read the story from the beginning, Image also offers a trade paperback that collects the first six issues for only $9.99. I highly suggest you start reading this series as soon as possible, as it is the best monthly comic being made right now.
