The following is an interview with Tom Peyer regarding the upcoming release of the collected trade paperback for Edgar Allen Poe’s Snifter of Death through AHOY Comics. In this interview, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon chats with Peyer about he incredible bonus features that will be included in the trade paperback, why it makes the perfect holiday purchase as the Halloween season fast approaches, and more!
Barbra Dillon, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief: Congratulations on the upcoming release! As with all of AHOY Comics’ releases, this collected edition is sure to be packed with incredible bonus features. What will readers have in store with this hilariously haunted collection?
Tom Peyer: Cory Sedlmeier, our collected editions editor, put together a pretty special package, which he tends to do. Writer/artist Rick Geary shared the pencils for his story, “A Tale of The Great Plague,” so you’ll see every page reproduced with his commentary. Another gallery presents every issue’s cover twice: once with our trashy, lurid come-on copy and once without. We also have a demented introduction by a saloonkeeper who used to grudgingly serve Poe, as dictated to me; it may shock you to learn that the author of such masterpieces as “The Raven” and “Masque of the Red Death” was, in real life, annoying.
BD: In looking back at the development of the anthology series, what can you tell us about your shared creative process in working with the various creators to bring their terrifyingly terrific tales to life?
TP: Once we settle on who’s doing what, I don’t like to get in the way too much. Maybe a little. But I find the stories come out better when I’m not bothering the creators like Poe in a bar.
BD: With the Halloween season fast approaching, what makes the Snifter of Death trade paperback a “must-have” for customers looking to get into the holiday spirit?
TP: It’s funny, scary, smart when necessary, stupid when possible, and always great looking. And it doesn’t promote tooth decay. But watch your liver.
BD: Are there any other upcoming projects on which you are currently working that you would like to share with our readers?
TP: Yes! I’m editing a new season of My Bad, a very funny series written by Mark Russell and Bryce Ingman and beautifully drawn by Peter Krause. Set in The Important New Superhero Universe, it presents a bickering group of costumed crimefighters with a wholly original challenge: somebody’s killin’ capes!
