Action, action, action. That is what the final installment of The Lost Fleet: Corsair from Titan Comics is all about.
Launching an attack on the Syndic orbital prison camp, the Alliance Marines and the former Syndic ground troops (a.k.a. the Tigres) manage to trust each other long enough to get the job done. The fighting is fierce as the Syndic CEO threatens to kill any of his troops and their families if they fail to hold the station. Though the Syndics are neutralized, only half of Geary’s objective is met. The Alliance POWs are still on board, but the former-Syndic prisoners are gone. Now, Captain Geary and Executive Aragon have a bigger problem: Four Syndic battle cruisers are headed inbound, leaving them outnumbered and outgunned.
I have enjoyed this series, as it gave a peek into other aspects of the Captain “Jack Black” Geary’s universe that I have been reading over the last few years in Mr. Campbell’s novels. He seems to do best when delving into the Syndic side of the story. Though the Syndic CEOs in this series are mustache-twirling villains, the novels introduce you to those who are more conflicted in their loyalty. Though the action overall was paced well, I got the feeling that the writer was trying to cram as much information as possible in this issue to complete the arc and set up the next series. During my first read through, I misinterpreted a couple of scenes, and it was only when I went back and reread it that certain aspects of the story became clear. As I mentioned before, I think it was because of so much information trying to be conveyed; however, I liked the fact that the storyline didn’t make any detours back to Captain John “Jack Black” Geary. A nod to what he represented to the Alliance crew was all that was ever really needed.
The art and coloring has been fun throughout the series. Bright and clean, it has a nice sci-fi feel to it. Kuddos to Andre Siregar, Bambang Irawan, Sebastian Cheng, and Jim Campbell.
