The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos is written by James Tynion IV (Nice House By the Lake, Batman, Something Is Killing the Children, Wynd) and Tate Brombal (Batgirl, Green Lantern, Everything Dead and Dying), drawn by Isaac Goodhard (Postal), Miquel Muerto (DC vs. Vampires), and Nick Robles (Absolute Flash), and lettered by Aditya Bidikar (Savage Shores). The series is published by Dark Horse Comics, and the Library Edition Volume 1 will be released March 10, 2026.
James Tynion IV is one of the most prolific and decorated contemporary comics writers working. He has worked on several of the most popular horror comics published in the last ten years, and he shows no sign of slowing down his output. Tynion’s work is typically geared towards mature audiences, but Christopher Chaos, which was co-written by Tate Brombal is an excellent example of his and Brombal’s ability to write for a wide range of age groups. The series follows a group of high school friends with strange powers who are swept up in a centuries-old struggle between monsters (the kids) and a mysterious and murderous militia called the Hellwing Corps. Although I would characterize Christopher Chaos as a form of YA, it, like Tynion’s other children’s series Wynd, can be enjoyed by adult audiences, as well.
The cast of Christopher Chaos is refreshingly diverse for a series geared towards young adults, with a cast of people of color, queer, and trans people whose identities are foregrounded without being fetishized or stereotyped. Tynion is an incredibly adept character writer, and the care with which he creates the heroes of Christopher Chaos is on full display in this work. Goodhard and Muerto’s art pairs excellently with Tynion and Brombal’s writing, matching the fast-paced dynamic storytelling with juicy, eye-catching action and colors. If you’re a fan of Grant Morrison’s Invisibles, this may be a good, if lighter, choice for you.
