‘The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos #9:’ Advance Comic Book Review

It’s been six months since we last left our heroes. They won their battle against the evil minions of the Helwing Corps. Christopher has learned to embrace his mad genius and channel it into all sorts of wild inventions and creations. More importantly, he doesn’t feel so alone anymore, now that he has his found family, Viveka and Dracula Boy—who meet regularly in Viveka’s empty house under the name The Monster Club. Things, for the most part, seem good; however, we get the distinct impression that this is just the calm before the storm.

The Helwing Corps may have been defeated for now, but they’re not gone. And while the Monster Club knows that it was the Helwing minions who killed their friend Hayden, the rest of the town still doesn’t—and there are those who want justice. Plus, there are still any number of deep, dark secrets in this town, and we get the feeling that some are about to come bubbling to the surface.

Not a lot actually happens in this issue. It’s less about the action and more about the characters and their relationships with one another, as well as a bit of exposition to catch us up and get us started on the new story arc. (The exposition is done in a fun way, too. I won’t spoil it.)

The characters have always been the driving force behind this comic, though, and it’s nice to spend a bit of time with them and see how they’ve progressed over the last few months. And there’s still just enough action and just enough tension to get us excited for what’s to come. I don’t know what’s in store, but it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun. I can’t wait to read the next issue.
