In our last issue, Christopher, Viveka, and Jordi (a.k.a. Dracula Boy) were being pursued by the mysterious, white-clad agents of the even more mysterious Helwing Corps. When a stranger swoops in to save them, Christopher finds that he knows him—though he’s not sure how or why.
Now that they’re safely away from their pursuers (for now), our heroes are faced with a choice. Do they run as far as they can away and hope that the Helwing Corps won’t be able to find them? Or do they stay and fight a battle that they’re wildly unprepared for, against an enemy they know virtually nothing about?
Meanwhile, Jesse Tombs, the police officer trying to get to the bottom of Hayden’s disappearance, is on the trail of the Helwing Corps herself and suspects that our heroes may know more about the situation than they let on; however, she’s also wildly out of her depth in this battle, with no idea just how powerful the forces are that she’s dealing with. She doesn’t even have powers—at least not that we’ve seen so far.
As the story progresses, slowly the mysteries are being peeled back—though what’s behind them, more often than not, tends to be more mysteries. Still, we’re getting a clearer picture of what’s going on, who’s involved, and why. Even though there’s still plenty we don’t know, it’s fun being immersed in the world of this comic and all the characters, the creatures, and the mysteries that it has to offer.
This issue also provides us with a glimpse into the home lives of our main characters. Seeing more of the world on the surface and the families who know nothing of what’s going on in the shadows helps make the characters more real and lets us understand them better.
This story is wild and unique, and every issue brings more to the table. I can’t wait to see what the next one brings.
