Previously, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Even without her powers, Buffy still retained some link to her destiny. Unfortunately, that also meant that her Slayer essence could still be sensed by Hungrus the Vampire Devourer. Will Buffy prove to be an easy snack or a meal that Hungrus will choke on?
With Buffy seemingly missing, the Scoobies scramble to try and locate her. Locating Buffy is the easy part. Saving her might prove to be a tad more difficult, even with two active Slayers on the rescue team. Thankfully, one of those Slayers is also a powerful witch, and the team is rounded out with a vampire. And Giles and Xander.
After a relatively introspective issue, Sarah Gailey delivers a pretty breezy script here, along with some of that trademark Buffy humor. We’re definitely nearing the climax here with all our heroes converging on Hungrus’ lair. While there are hints about how some of these pieces may be coming together, my previous concerns about the lack of cohesion from start to now remains. I’d like to see if the lil’ demon crab will come into play. Demon crab vs. demon spider could be a fun arthropod battle royale
Claudia Balboni returns as the artist of this issue, and there are a lot of great, little character moments in here. The character interactions in Xander’s pad have a nice natural flow to them. Valentina Pinto’s colorwork is strong as ever, with some beautiful light interplay with Willow’s magic. Ed Dukeshire’s lettering remains a pretty strong element in this book’s presentation.
Overall, with a pretty strong rescue team on the way, here’s hoping that Buffy is still holding on.
