The following is an interview with J. Michael Donohue regarding the upcoming launch of the Kickstarter campaign for the comic book anthology, MORSELS Presents: Days Without Incident. In this interview, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon chats with Donohue about his creative process in bringing the stories and characters to life on the page, what readers may take away from the stories’ themes, and more!

Barbra Dillon, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief: Congratulations on the upcoming launch of your Kickstarter campaign for the horror comic book anthology, MORSELS Presents! What can you share with us about the overall premise of the collection?

J. Michael Donohue: Thank you so much! MORSELS Presents is my love letter to the great horror anthologies such as Creepshow, Tales from the Hood, Tales from the Crypt, Trick R’ Treat, and Tales from the Darkside. This series is a collection of individually wrapped horror stories so terrifying, that readers will be screaming for more. The thing that I’m most excited about is that each issue can stand on its own, but readers who have read from the beginning will be rewarded in the fourth issue.

BD: As the writer of the collection, what can you tell us about your shared creative process of bringing the stories and their characters to life on the page?

JMD: Each issue of this series has been an opportunity to dip my toe into a different horror subgenre. “One Good Scare” is J-horror, “Tagalongs” is zombies, “Days Without Incident” is slashers, and “Be Kind and Rewind” is a haunted video store. Not only that, but “Be Kind and Rewind” is going to be a fun way to wrap up the first volume of the series.

BD: Why do you feel that crowdfunding has been such a valuable resource to ensuring the success of today’s comic book creators and publishers?

JMD: I think crowdfunding has been such a valuable resource for comic book creators because it gives all of us the opportunity to tell a variety of different stories and gives the opportunity for creators to find and build their audience.

BD: In light of the crowdfunding campaign, are there any particular backer rewards that you would like to highlight for our readers?

JMD: I will say that I’ve gone lean and mean with the MORSELS Presents campaigns because I want the stories to speak for themselves. Returning backers will have the option to pick up the newest issue in either digital or physical, backers new to the series will have the option to pick up all three issues, as well as the original MORSELS collection, and there’s also the JMD One-Shot comics library that contains all of the books I’ve written.

One thing we are doing differently than other campaigns is having the ability for potential backers to unlock different ‘Early Bird” freebies during the prelaunch campaign. Once we pass 100 sign-ups our first goodie will be unlocked with a few more surprises to hopefully follow close behind.

BD: Are there any other projects – past or current – that you would like to share with our readers?

JMD: Beyond MORSELS Presents I would love to tell readers about my Addison Grove series. Similarly to MORSELS Presents, Addison Grove is an anthology series that I launched in 2025 and will be finishing up in 2027. This series is four individual stories that are all set in Addison Grove, an idyllic little town tucked away between the natural and the supernatural. Both of the first two issues are available as add-ons for the upcoming MORSELS Presents…Days Without Incident campaign. I’m super proud of both of these series and I hope readers of MP will try out this other series.

BD: Lastly, what would you like to tell readers who want to learn more about the MORSELS Presents campaign and your other work?

JMD: Please check both of them out and tell a friend. I am insanely proud of the work that has gone into MORSELS Presents and Addison Grove, and more importantly, I’m very proud of the work all of my team members have put into making each and every book better than the last. Not only have I worked with some very talented people, but I’ve made some lasting friendships along the way.
