When she’s good, she’s good. When she’s bad, she’s better. 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of the popular X-man, Rogue.

Not always on the side of the angels, Rogue burst on the scene as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. But, I guess having Mystique as a mom, you gotta cut a girl a little slack. My first kiss was no picnic, but Rogue’s mutant ability to absorb someone’s persona through flesh contact happened to coincide with her first kiss. Unfortunately, putting her paramour, Cody, in a catatonic coma. I can’t even get a guy to close his eyes for the love of Pete. And, you thought having “Aunt Flo” come to visit when you’re wearing white jeans is embarrassing? Who the hell this side of Shaun Cassidy wears white jeans any way?

Introduced to the Marvel Universe via Avengers Annual #10 in 1981, Rogue was created by legendary X-Scribe Chris Claremont and artist extraordinaire Michael Golden. Claremont has later said that he intended Rogue to be around 17 and lamented that artists drew her too old in the beginning. I think Jim Lee is the one who made her sexy.

A frequent foil of Ms. Marvel and Dazzler, Rogue sought asylum at Professor Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters and joined his X-men when her powers ran awry, much to their chagrin. The X-men quickly warmed up to her, and Wolverine even planted one on her, transferring his healing factor to saving her life. Rogue has since remained a popular member of the team and is often associated with her steamy, forbidden relationship with dreamy Gambit. (Come on, he’s so pretty he’d even give a Beast a bone!) Appearing in several comics, films, and even the animated series, at 30, Rogue is far from over the hill. Happy 30th, “Sugah.”

Michael Troy is a deeply superficial person. Born in the midwest in the ’70s, Michael came to Los Angeles to pursue his bi-polar career path as an actor and artist. 2005 saw the release of Michael’s first published book, Homo-Hero’s Big Book of Fun and Adventure (www.greencandypress.com). Michael has contributed to the Lady Gaga comic book from Bluewater Productions and has his hand in various other upcoming projects. Michael has performed stand-up comedy at all of the major comedy clubs in Los Angeles and is making his triumphant return to the main stage of The Comedy Store in September. Sitting alongside industry heavyweight Phil Jimenez at the “Divas and Lassoes” panel for the 2010 San Diego comic-con, Michael maintains and cherishes his “underground” status. A staunch believer in Blonde Ambition, Michael hopes his new comic about shallow blonde super heroes in Los Angeles, The Blonde Squad, will set the world on fire (or at least brighten it a bit).
