‘Resurrectionists: Near-Death Experienced’ – Advance TPB Review

Resurrectionists is a comic that explores things like immortality, reincarnation, and destiny. It’s also a pretty cool heist story. And, those two facets together create a compelling adventure that spans multiple time periods.

Jericho Way is a former architect, turned thief. But, unbeknownst to him, he’s lived thousands of other lives, going all the way back to ancient Egypt, where he was Tao—a former architect, turned thief. He and a group of others have played out the same scenario, again and again, for millennia. They start out with no memory of any of their past lives, but when they’re eventually woken up, they can access the memories—and, more importantly, the skills—of anyone they’ve been before. And, as they find each other in their new, awakened state, they band together to continue their eternal mission: find the Pharaoh who betrayed them back in Egypt and make him pay.

There’s actually a lot more to the plot than that, including a number of twists, turns, and surprises, but I’d rather let you read the comic and find them out for yourself. The concept is kind of similar to another comic I reviewed recently, Welcome Back. It also dealt with past lives, locked in the same struggle over millennia, always meeting one another, and having to be woken up to remember all that went before. Each does something very different with the subject matter, though, and each manages to be unique and compelling in its own way.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this comic. The concepts it explores and the possibilities it presents are fascinating, as well as full of great action. Definitely worth checking out.
