The Kickstarter Report: ‘My So-Called Secret Identity’

A little over a year ago, Fanboy Comics reviewed a free online comic called My So-Called Secret Identity. The story revolves around Cat, a young woman in a world of superheroes, who’s been blessed—or cursed—with phenomenal intelligence. With no super strength of super speed, she is relegated to the background as the powered people fight an unending war all around her—until Cat decides to take up a costume herself and pit her intellect against some of the most deadly and dangerous forces imaginable—both heroes and villains.

Not only is this a well-written, well-drawn, exciting comic, it also provides a unique and refreshing feminist perspective. It features a variety of strong, independent, and diverse female characters, with more depth than is seen in a lot of other comics, as well as more realistically drawn costumes and body proportions. Plus, it’s a whole lot of fun.

The creative team behind My So-Called Secret Identity is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to fund their fifth issue, as well as a printed edition of the completed first volume, Issues #1-5. There are a number of great rewards available, including collected digital and print copies of the comic, t-shirts, book bags, and more. They’re almost to their goal, but they have just a few days left to make it the rest of the way. The campaign ends on Tuesday, July 15th. Visit their Kickstarter page to donate, or check out their website to read the first four issues.
