If you read Kristine Chester’s reviews of Issue #1 and #2 of Rat Queens, you know that this phenomenal fantasy series follows four hard-drinking, hard-fighting female mercenaries, Hannah the Rockabilly Elven Mage, Violet the Hipster Dwarven Fighter, Dee the Atheist Human Cleric, and Betty the Hippy Hobbit Thief, collectively known as The Rat Queens!

Issue #4 deals out more exposed bone, more hilariously vulgar insults and exclamations, and a lot more flying teeth than we’ve seen so far, as we continue to learn more about the world and characters around the Rat Queens.  While I am utterly charmed by each of the main characters, I am also pleasantly surprised to find that, so far, the motivations of the villains tend to be somewhat noble.  More so, in fact, than the Queens themselves.   Of course, the villains aren’t nearly as fun.  It’s just nice being treated to something more than your typical good-vs-evil fantasy story.  In this fourth issue, a mystery is solved, while some loose ends come back to bite them in their proverbial a–es as the Rat Queens continue to stir up all sorts of trouble in their little town of Palisades.

If you roleplay, this series was made for you, but even if you don’t (like me), you can still easily get behind the raucous fun that is Kurtis Weibe and John Upchurch’s The Rat Queens.
