‘TMNT: Casey and April #1’ – Advance Comic Book Review

Finally!  A four-part series about my favorite comic book couple, Casey Jones and April O’Neil. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my heroes-in-a-half-shell, but after our Ninja Turtles lost one of their own in the ongoing storyline, I’ve been a little depressed, as if I lost my own brother.  I needed something uplifting to pick me up, and I can always count on April O’Neil to do just that.

I love the relationship between April and Casey because they’re so . . . different.  To put it in their own words, “Me and you as kids is like New York and California. Different worlds.  Different planets.”  And, while our two lovebirds are off on an adventure (one that started in the current ongoing TMNT series), April and Casey find themselves in practically another different world while on the road—the desert!  Throw in an ancient old man with an affinity for rats and games, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: April & Casey is bound to be a great story!

Speaking of, Mariko Tamaki has a fantastic story on his hands!  I’m curious to know who this mysterious, rat-loving creature is.  I love the panels where Casey finds a rock in the shape of a heart.  As readers, we know what he’s thinking without a word being said, and the artwork by Irene Koh is truly stunning!  I’ve been reading comic books for almost a year now, and this is the most beautiful artwork I’ve seen to date.  The shading is done to perfection, and even the colors by Paul Reinwand add so much to this already beautiful story.  Beautiful in many, but different, ways.

If I’m being honest, I think this is the first time I’ve thought of Casey and April as both being hot comic book characters!  I think this is my first animated crush, and I don’t know who to like more . . . Casey or April?  But, now that you know about my new crush, I hope just you continue to follow my reviews as our couple’s exciting, new journey unfolds.

See you next month!
