Evidently, there’s a football game on Sunday bookending the Beyoncé concert. Nobody asked, but I predict the 49ers will win a very physical, low-scoring game at 24 – 21. About 100 million people are expected to tune in and many of those will be watching specifically to see the commercials.
In recent years, the big studios have used this unprecedented audience to show off their upcoming films. Disney released a sneak preview today ahead of their Big Game commercial for Oz: The Great and Powerful, and we’ve got it for you. I love that stretching of the image to CinemaScope dimensions; it’s a cool addition to the switch from sepia to color to let us know we’re definitely not in Kansas anymore. Evidently, the Wicked Witch of the West will be taking over Disney’s website after the commercial airs during the game.
Disney also released a new set of character posters today featuring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams. Oz: The Great and Powerful opens March 8, 2013. Kickoff for the Big Game is Sunday at 6:30 p.m. (East Coast Time) from the New Orleans Superdome.
