#CrowdfundingFridays: Antaeus Theatre Company, ‘Cosmic Waves,’ ‘Earth Alliance,’ and ‘The Mindgator’

Here at Fanboy Comics, we strive to provide an outlet for up-and-coming creators to promote and showcase their incredible works. With thousands of creators utilizing crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo to make those works a reality, we will highlight these talented creators and their noteworthy campaigns through #CrowfundingFridays! We hope that you will join us in giving these projects a moment of your time (and possibly your support)!

AntaeusProject #1: Antaeus Theatre Company
What it’s about: Antaeus is a cooperative theatre ensemble founded to empower the actor and to bring classical theatre to Southern California. Founded in 1991 as a project of the prestigious Center Theatre Group, the company exists to create a family of artists and audiences and is dedicated to exploring stories with enduring themes.  Antaeus is planning to build a new theater/cultural arts center in Glendale, CA, and the company is running a Kickstarter campaign through mid-March to raise a chunk of the money needed to start construction. Antaeus is the artistic home for some of the most iconic fan favorites in the sci-fi/genre universe, as well as a variety of well known TV actors, including:

-Armin Shimerman (Star Trek: Deep Space 9 – Quark. Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Principal Snyder.)
-Tony Amendola (Continuum. Once Upon A Time – Geppetto. Stargate SG1.)
-Gregg Daniel (True Blood. General Hospital.)
-Raphael Sbarge (Once Upon a Time. Murder in the First. 24.)
-Linda Park (Star Trek: Enterprise – Lt. Hoshi Sato. Crash. Women’s Murder Club.)

Launching in tandem with the Kickstarter campaign, the Antaeus #ShakespeareInsultChallenge features familiar faces from the science fiction universe each calling out one of the insults sprinkled throughout the Bard’s plays (“Thou burlyboned, poxmarked skainsmate”) and encouraging viewers to donate, create similar videos of their own and spread the word via #ShakespeareInsultChallenge.

Fanboy Comics had the pleasure of interviewing company member Harry Groener (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) last year, as well as reviewing Aneaeus’ production of Uncle Vanya.

The coolest backer reward: For $50 or more, company member Armin Shimerman will tweet a Shakespeare Insult at someone of your choosing!

What it’s about: Discover The Mindgator, a comic of secrets and hidden treasures, as we follow Miguel, a man still recovering from that time his luck ran out, who tries to redeem himself by helping a stranger, only to realize he’s stumbled into a much larger plot that would destroy his beloved city, Tokyo.
The coolest backer reward: For a $30 pledge, backers will receive Book 1 of Mindgator with a black-and-white pencil sketch of the creator’s choice, showing one of the characters from the story individually hand drawn on a blank page inside the book and signed by the artist + 3 exclusive Mindgator postcards.
