The Kickstarter Report: ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay Fan Film’

Readers of the Fanboy Comics website may or may not know that I am *kind of* a huge fan of The Hunger Games book series by Suzanne Collins.  (Kind of.  All right . . . I’m a Hunger Games fanatic.)  That being said, I am always excited to see other THG fans demonstrate their own love for Katniss and the engaging characters of Panem, especially when that admiration displays their own creativity.  For that reason, I am very excited to report that a team of talented filmmakers recently launched their own Kickstarter campaign for a Mockingjay fan film, and they need your help to bring one of the most memorable and climactic scenes of the third Hunger Games novel to life on film.

katniss girlonfire withcast 3d7If successfully funded, the Mockingjay short film will provide a glimpse into Katniss Everdeen’s life as the symbol of the rebellion during the events of Mockingjay. (Important to note is that this is a fan film and is not affiliated with Lionsgate or Suzanne Collins.)  The film’s creators have a professional, experienced cast and crew on board who are all willing to work completely for free; no one is making any money from the film, and all funds raised will go towards renting camera and lighting equipment, costumes, props, and food for the cast and crew.

The script of the film has already been written, the locations scouted, the shoot dates set, and a professional cast and crew chosen.  In fact, the filmmakers filmed the below test footage of actress Kristen Brancaccio as lead character Katniss Everdeen to give fans and potential backers a sense of the realism, special effects, and grittiness that the film will involve.  In addition, the filmmakers and actress Brancaccio are very interested in interacting with fans and encourage you to contact them on Twitter (@kristensreality).

Be sure to visit the Mockingjay Fan Film’s Kickstarter page, and don’t forget to check out the backer rewards, which include your name in the credits, a digital copy of the film’s soundtrack, and a chance to hang out on set during filming! The Kickstarter campaign will close on Monday, May 12th, so be sure to donate soon!
