The Indiegogo Report: ‘TableTop: Season 3’

Fanboy Comics strives to bring its readers the latest and greatest crowdfunding campaigns through its Kickstarter Report and Indiegogo Report series.  Most often, the selected campaigns are launched by independent writers, artists, filmmakers, and other creators who are hoping to bring their amazing ideas to a larger audience, and we at FBC are happy to do our part in assisting these creators.  Every now and then, there are campaigns that are so popular that they succeed within unimaginably small periods of time, and, for this, we also like to acknowledge their accomplishments.

Over the weekend, fans of the digital series TableTop showed their support and their desire for a third season by donating $261,000 to the show’s Indiegogo campaign, breaking a crowdfunding record for most funds raised by a digital series in its first 24 hours.  Led by the show’s host, Wil Wheaton, and in conjunction with Geek & Sundry and Indiegogo, the campaign for TableTop will continue through May 10th, 2014, in hopes of reaching its $500,000 goal.

TableTop Season 3 Campaign Breaks Crowdfunding Record for Most Funds Raised in 24 hours by a Digital Series

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA (Monday, April 7th 2014) – Geek & Sundry today announced the incredible global success of its 2nd Annual International TableTop Day, which took place on April 5th.  Presented by Geek & Sundry along with TableTop host Wil Wheaton and co-creator Felicia Day, the event was designed to bring friends and family together across the globe to celebrate the joys of table top gaming.  Events were set up by fans, groups, and retail stores through beginning in January.  A total of 81 countries took part in International TableTop Day, an increase from the 64 countries registered for the inaugural event last year. In the U.S alone, events were held in every state and province in North America, in over 100 different Universities, 325 libraries, and a “takeover” of Seattle took place with nearly every board game store participating with 25 events in the city, including one in the highest building in the Northwest.

VIP and celebrity table top players got in some game time too, with guests such as Harry Shum, Jr (Glee), Kelly Hu (Arrow), Brandon Routh (Chuck), Colin Ferguson (Eureka), Ashley Johnson (The Avengers) and Alison Haislip (Shameless) joining 600+ fans at the flagship event that was held and live-streamed from West Hollywood in California. Game publishers got into the spirit by contributing special collectible expansion packs and special game pieces to gaming retail stores for the general public worldwide, including Wil-inspired cards made exclusively for the game 7 Wonders. The event hashtag #TableTopDay trended domestically for 23 hours straight, of which 21 hours saw it trending worldwide continuously on Twitter. On Facebook, the event also trended for 18 hours in the US and 10 hours across the globe.

Fans were given a special announcement during the flagship event as Wil shared that a new season of its wildly popular series, TableTop, was coming back for Season 3 with the request of help from the fans. Funders from over 23 countries responded with a resounding “YES!” when they contributed $261,000, breaking a crowdfunding record for most funds raised by a digital series in its first 24 hours. The record was previously held by Bee and Puppy Cat, which raised $218,000 in the first 24 hours of their campaign. With Indiegogo as its funding platform, Wil is inviting and empowering TableTop fans to help contribute to the independent series, in order to make this season its most ambitious production yet.  As part of the Indiegogo campaign, Wil announced a minimum goal of $500,000 for 15 episodes to be reached by May 10th 2014, with potentially more exciting episodes to follow should fan contributions meet stretch goals.  Contributor perks range from bonus content, exclusive TableTop T-shirts, Dice Bags, and Membership Cards, to big-ticket items such as a VIP visit to the set, and a seat at the gaming table with Wil, Felicia Day and other special guests at International Comic-Con: San Diego this July.  Fans can contribute to TableTop season 3 now at

Before we had finished airing season two of TableTop, thousands of people were asking me when season 3 would begin. When I replied that we hadn’t secured funding for season 3, so I didn’t know, the reply was always the same: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY,” said Wil Wheaton.  “I love the idea of crowdfunding, and I love the idea of working together as a community to make something awesome, so I added all these things up, and decided that we’d let the worldwide audience of TableTop fans who have been so supportive of our show make it possible for us to give them the third season they (and we) want. We’ve always had an independent spirit at Geek & Sundry, and I’m so excited to partner with our community and Indiegogo to become a truly independent production, so we can do things in season 3 that we haven’t been able to do before, and get even more people to play more games.”

Marc Hofstatter, Head of Film and Digital at Indiegogo added, “As fans of the series, we’re honored to have Geek & Sundry and Wil Wheaton join the Indiegogo family as they begin their campaign for the third season of TableTop. We look forward to seeing what awesome things they have in store for their new season.”
