The Horror Writers Association (HWA), a non-profit organization of writers and publishing professionals from around the world dedicated to promoting dark literature and the interests of those who write it, will once again be hosting StokerCon and the Ann Radcliffe Academic Conference from March 1-4, 2018, in Providence, RI.  Fanbase Press is honored to have many of its staff, contributors, and creators involved with this year’s StokerCon, both as participants in the Ann Radcliffe Academic Conference and as nominees for this year’s Bram Stoker Awards® for superior achievement in horror literature. 

During this year’s StokerCon, attendees are encouraged to make their way to the Ann Radcliffe Academic Conference, co-chaired by Fanbase Press Editorials Manager Michele Brittany and Guest Contributor Nicholas Diak. This marks the second annual conference held in conjunction with StokerCon, and there are currently 32 academic presentations which will explore many aspects of horror in eight topical blocks. Below are the panels to be presented by Fanbase Press’ staff and contributors:

  • On Thursday, March 1, Michele Brittany will be presenting “Mummies in Comics 101” at the Ann Radcliffe Academic Conference as part of the Myth and Monsters Panel.
  • On Thursday, March 1, Nicholas Diak will be presenting “Lost Nights and Dangerous Days: Unraveling the Relationship Between Stranger Things and Synthwave” during the Horror Studies Panel.
  • On Friday, March 2, Erica McCrystal will be presenting “Jekyll and Hyde Everywhere: Inconsistency and Disparity in the Real World” during the Gothic, Folklore, & Villains Panel.
  • On Friday, March 2, Kevin Wetmore will be presenting “Night of the Living Dead, or Endgame: Samuel Beckett and Zombies” during the Zombies, Ghouls and Other Monsters Panel.
  • On Friday, March 2, Adam Crowley will be presenting “Roadway to Hell: The Divided Line and the Concept of Evil in H.P. Lovecraft’s The Colour Out of Space” during the 20th Century Horror Literature Panel.
  • On Saturday, March 3, at 11 a.m., Robert Payne Cabeen and Michele Brittany will be panelists on the “Essential Works of Graphic Horror,” and they will joined by James Moore, Nathan Carson, Paul DiFilippo, and Scott Edelman.
  • On Saturday, March 3, at noon, Michele Brittany will be reading from her anthology, Horror in Space: Critical Essays on a Film Subgenre.
  • On Saturday, March 3, at 1 p.m., Nicholas Diak will be a panelist for “The New Horror Cinema: Influential Horror Movies of the ’70s and ’80s,” and he will be joined by panelists Brad C Hodson, Chad Stroup, and Nathan Carson.

In addition, Fanbase Press offers its sincerest congratulations to Fanbase Press Editorials Manager Michele Brittany and Fearworms: Selected Poems creator Robert Payne Cabeen for their 2017 Bram Stoker Award nominations!  Brittany was nominated within the category, “Superior Achievement in Non-Fiction,” for her book, Horror in Space: Critical Essays on a Film Subgenre (McFarland), and Cabeen was nominated in the category, “Superior Achievement in a First Novel,” for his book, Cold Cuts (Omnium Gatherum Media).
