Here at Fanbase Press, we strive to provide an outlet for up-and-coming creators to promote and showcase their incredible works. With thousands of creators utilizing crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo to make those works a reality, we will highlight these talented creators and their noteworthy campaigns through #CrowfundingFridays! Project #1: The Death of Bobby Hart (Second printing)
What it’s about: Equal parts noir and blaxploitation, The Death of Bobby Hart is an examination of the final weeks in the life of an author overcoming drug addiction, an exploration of the creative process, and a glimpse at the blurred line that separates fact from fiction — all drawn by Dietrich O. Smith. Inter-cut throughout the main story are chapters from Bobby Hart’s final novel, The Ghetto Avenger’s Last Stand, featuring spot illustrations by Craig Johnson II.
Inspired by a true story, The Death of Bobby Hart is a neo-noir crime thriller about the murder of pulp writer Bobby Hart, the undisputed king of 1970s “street literature” books such as Pimp Wars and Confessions of a Junkie. With more than a dozen books to his name, Bobby Hart is working on the most recent installment in his popular GHETTO AVENGER series when he and his pregnant wife are brutally gunned down in their home. But who killed Bobby and why? And what do his books–gritty, hard-boiled crime thrillers set in the world of gangsters, dope dealers, pimps, and ghetto vigilantes–have to do with his murder?

Project #2: Fisticuffs: Books 1-4
What it’s about: Fisticuffs is the story of a functional drunk whose comfortable life derails when a one-night stand has deadly consequences. Imagine: the sense of humor of The Boys; the explosive action of Invincible; and the type of deeply personal storytelling you’d find in a Martin Scorsese movie.

Project #3: Joe Unknown #1
What it’s about: Joe Unknown is the story of a comic book horror host, as he faces with an existential threat that forces him to reconcile his current existence with his life on Earth.
Problem is, he has no idea where to start.
Joe Unknown is not only a horror book, but a reflection of how we view our own lives and experiences.

Project #4: Shrub: The Collected Edition
What it’s about: GLAAD Media Award-winning and Eisner and Harvey Awards-nominated publisher and media outlet Fanbase Press is proud to announce Shrub, an 8-issue Graphic Medicine series which will be crowdfunded by the publisher on Kickstarter.
In this middle grade adventure, readers will join Shrub who is, well… a shrub… for a cross-country trip to Hollywood! Join Shrub and a grieving brother and sister as they hit the open road in search of connection. On their journey, pit stops, wacky plant enthusiasts, uprooting, and re-routing abound.
The series was created and written by Emmy Award nominee Shane Portman (Tumble Leaf, Shape Island), illustrated by Andy Alves (Cosmic Cadets), colored by Sophia Du and Celia FitzGerald, lettered by Oceano Ransford (Eisner Award-nominated Rikki), and with consultation from comics librarian Moni Barrette.
Shrub explores the various ways that we allow grief to take root, inspired by writer Shane Portman’s experience with the loss of his father. The series features “Letting Grief Take Root” essays written by individuals with a personal and/or professional connection to grief who relate Shrub’s story to their own lived experience.
