Here at Fanbase Press, we strive to provide an outlet for up-and-coming creators to promote and showcase their incredible works. With thousands of creators utilizing crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo to make those works a reality, we will highlight these talented creators and their noteworthy campaigns through #CrowfundingFridays! Project #1: Systemic: Volume 2
What it’s about: Systemic is a comics anthology collecting stories of individual people at the points where societal forces clash.
In the tradition of classic speculative-fiction magazines like Analog and Weird Tales, the creators have gathered leading and rising stars from both mainstream and indie comics and set them loose to tell the stories that move them. We live in an unprecedented era, buffeted by monolithic forces—cultural, technological, economic, and governmental—as intractable as the tides. They are, you might say, Systemic. These are stories of the small, the insignificant, and the infinitely critical human lives, where these forces meet and mesh and grind together.
With an expanded roster of nine all-new stories and an expanded scope that now encompasses all of speculative fiction, Systemic returns to shine a human light on the conflicts that define our world.

Project #2: The Acts of Louis Debraz, Voyageur
What it’s about: Canadian comic creators Matt McGrath and Jon Berg are launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund The Acts of Louis Debraz, Voyageur, a new 24-page comic series inspired by the legends, folklore and ghost stories of Quebec and Canada.,
Set in 19th-century Lower Canada, Voyageur follows Louis Debraz, a Voyageur who has made it his life’s mission to track the Devil across the country and send him back to Hell. In “The Devil Comes to Dance” Louis’ quest brings him to the town of Saint-Jérôme, where a group of party goers celebrating Mardi Gras are visited by a handsome traveler who sets his sights on the beautiful and brilliant daughter of the house, Rose Latulippe.
Louis joins forces with the parish priest to rescue this party before the devil collects their souls!

Project #3: Nighthawks: Volume 1
What it’s about: A hard-boiled detective, deadly dames, gangsters, and assassins, all set against a backdrop that is both hauntingly familiar and wholly unique.
Nighthawks was inspired by Edward Hopper and his quintessential work of the same name: We wanted to know who are the people in the painting? Where were they from? Why were they there? Did they know each other? We set out to tell the story and capture the essence of Hopper’s work in a loving homage to one of the greatest American artists in history.

Project #4: Banorin
What it’s about: The story of Banorin takes place far into the future after the continents have shifted once again. A cult of robots called the Divide roam the earth for new members. Banorin, a big blue swordsman, walks the roads. In this story, a group of travelers band together. It’s a sci-fi fantasy story. There’s a Wizard of Oz-type feeling to this story. It’s like the Wizard of Oz in the future with barbarians.
in this story, characters experience loss. The loss of a loved one seems to be the focus of the divide.
Banorin himself has a missing wife. A swordswoman lost on the trail. The cult’s reach spreads wide.

Project #5: Shrub: The Collected Edition
What it’s about: GLAAD Media Award-winning and Eisner and Harvey Awards-nominated publisher and media outlet Fanbase Press is proud to announce Shrub, an 8-issue Graphic Medicine series which will be crowdfunded by the publisher on Kickstarter.
In this middle grade adventure, readers will join Shrub who is, well… a shrub… for a cross-country trip to Hollywood! Join Shrub and a grieving brother and sister as they hit the open road in search of connection. On their journey, pit stops, wacky plant enthusiasts, uprooting, and re-routing abound.
The series was created and written by Emmy Award nominee Shane Portman (Tumble Leaf, Shape Island), illustrated by Andy Alves (Cosmic Cadets), colored by Sophia Du and Celia FitzGerald, lettered by Oceano Ransford (Eisner Award-nominated Rikki), and with consultation from comics librarian Moni Barrette.
Shrub explores the various ways that we allow grief to take root, inspired by writer Shane Portman’s experience with the loss of his father. The series features “Letting Grief Take Root” essays written by individuals with a personal and/or professional connection to grief who relate Shrub’s story to their own lived experience.
