Previously on Angel: Well, the identity of the sorrow demon has been cleared up, and it’s none other than the Groosalugg. On the other hand, there’s also a literal poop demon (a.k.a. Lord Lanugo) running about. Good thing is that Angel’s back to normal. Now, time for a plan.

The gang’s all ready… weapons, a double-pronged plan, penicillin… Cordy even has a special outfit picked out for this engagement. Despite this being an alternate universe, some things don’t seem to be all that different, with Fred the Vampire Slayer calling in an assist from an ex-boyfriend from college that happens to also be a military guy with some major connections. While things seem to work out for once, some new arrivals spell new trouble for the group.

Christopher Cantwell wraps up his first half of the series and in his first four issues, and he’s pretty much established the status quo of this universe; it’s filled with familiar faces in similar circumstances but with some key differences that keep them on very different trajectories from what we’ve previously known. Cantwell’s script captures the tone of the TV show that inspired it, staying breezy while weaving in moments of poignancy when it’s called for.

Daniel Bayliss’ artwork retains the same charm as his work on the previous issues, with some really nice sensitive moments mixed in with the funny bits. Patricio Delpeche and María Agustina Vallejo elevate the artwork, imbuing many of the scenes with the gang with a cozy vibe. Becca Carey’s lettering is top-notch here, giving a lot of personality to various characters.

Overall, with things wrapped up on some fronts, a new threat looms.
