The following is an interview with Leonie O’Moore on the release of her new webcomic, Trick of Time.  In this interview, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon chats with O’Moore about the inspiration behind the webcomic, her creative process in bringing the story to life, the impact that she hopes that Trick of TIme may have with readers, and more!

Barbra Dillon, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief: Congratulations on the launch of your new webcomic, Trick of Time, through Webtoons! For those who may be unfamiliar, what can you tell us about the premise of the series?

Leonie O’Moore: Thanks! The story is centered around a family of witches in 17th Century England who are trying to escape a witch trial. They use magic to propel themselves into the future. They arrive in modern England and must try to fit in.

BD: What was the inspiration behind Trick of Time, and who (or what) were some of your creative influences for the project?

LO: I had been reading about witches in that time period and reading and watching a lot of old horror, and that certainly influenced my ideas; however, with everything going on right now, I’ve also found myself drawn to media that is comforting and I’ve been revisiting things that are familiar. Things that aren’t too challenging or sad. That’s what I really wanted to focus on with this story; I wanted to create something lighthearted and wholesome. As it is set in England, a lot of British shows have also influenced it, and there are some little background nods to that, too. A lot of the story is set in and around a museum and gift store, and I’ve worked in lots of those, so I’m able to draw on some real life experience for it too.

BD: How frequently will you be posting new entries in the webcomic?

LO: Every two weeks on a Friday.

BD: At Fanbase Press this year, our #StoriesMatter initiative endeavors to highlight the impact that stories can have on audiences of various mediums. How do you feel that Trick of Time ’s story will connect with and impact readers, and why do you feel that this story was important for you to bring to life?

LO: I just hope that it provides a fun, little distraction. That was my main aim, and working on it has certainly been a fun distraction for me, so, hopefully, it’s the same for anyone reading it.

BD: Are there any other upcoming projects on which you are working that you are able to share with our readers?

LO: I have some upcoming projects due for release soon.  Gothic Tales of Haunted Futures is due out in October from Renegade Arts Entertainment. It’s a beautiful collection of Gothic romance comics with a futuristic twist. I wrote a story for it with art by Skylar Patridge and lettering by Lyndon Radchenka.

I also did an illustration for the Firefly Artbook which is out in November from Printed in Blood and Titan Books:

I’ve also been working with the talented team over at Kymera Press on the upcoming issues of Ivory Ghosts. It’s a thriller about the ivory trade based on the novel by Caitlin O’Connell. I’m the art director on the comic series. Issues 1 and 2 are currently available and 3 should be out soon.
