With Star Wars: The Last Jedi about to hit theaters in only a few short months, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been reappearing all over the place. From Force Friday to personalized Apple Store sessions, everyone wants a piece of the franchise from a galaxy far, far away. That includes IDW Publishing’s latest comic book series, Star Wars Adventures.
What I love about these adventures so far is that they consist of multiple stories. From the early hardships of Rey’s life before The Force Awakens, to short stories about original trilogy characters. And of course, no Star Wars adventure tale would be complete without Jar-Jar! (Just kidding! But you should see the look on your face right now…)
Which brings us to issue #2 of Star Wars Adventures, with our main storyline about Rey called “Better the Devil You Know.” Unkar Plutt has been kidnapped, and with a new boss worse than Unkar controlling his “rations for parts” business (if you can call it that), it’s up to Rey to save him. But what happens when Unkar proves to be ungrateful for his secret rescue mission? That’s when we the readers become thankful for “Tales from Wild Space: The Flat Mountain of Yavin”—the second adventure in this second issue. And just wait until you read about the awesome female pilot who once saved the famous rebel base from destruction!
I absolutely love the stories in Star Wars Adventures. From new characters written by Elsa Charretier and Pierrick Colinet, sharing original stories from the original trilogy, to new-er characters from the new-est trilogy written by Cavan Scott, this comic book series has something for fans of all ages of the Star Wars universe. And with similar artwork styles from Derek Charm and Elsa Charretier, these adventures have earned their spot in any comic book collection for all fans of the galaxy’s most popular franchise.
I strongly believe that Star Wars never became popular because of where it takes place, but rather, who takes place in it…
May the Force be with you!
