Titan Comics has teamed up with BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment to treat TEKKEN fans to an exciting take on the longtime video game series. As TEKKEN 7 is scheduled to be released at the beginning of June, the comic book, TEKKEN #1, will provide a bridge to those who can’t wait for their next fight scene to take place.

Writer Cavan Scott creates the first chapter in a way that shapes itself as an introduction in the gaming world. Before gameplay begins, you watch as the history of the story unfolds before your eyes, catching up to the very point you take hold of the controls, ready to battle. Whether you’re familiar with the video games or its characters, Scott lands you right in the middle of a family war with action sequences reminiscent of those played from a video game console. He provides classic lines between characters when one character barges in to save another, when it might not be necessary: “Who needs rescuing?” Then, you find yourself wondering if you’ve heard a “boss” yell at her goons before, “No, you idiots!”

These comical lines add to the illustrations by artist Andie Tong. Along with colors by Marcio Menyz, Tong showcases these quick and powerful altercations with blurred edging and impact debris. Bold colors from Menyz capture your attention as guns blast and backgrounds light up. This comic book also includes a cover gallery featuring several different variants and eight character profiles, which give a brief bio on who they are and what their motivations might be. These profile images look exactly like what you would see on the video game screen, further connecting fans to this new series, while also giving those new to the TEKKEN world a detailed synopsis to describe “for 40 years a civil war has raged within the Mishima family” – and learn about recent events that bring this comic book story to life.

If you’re interested in this series, you can also go online to watch video game simulations for some of these characters as they battle each other. This might give you insight into powerful action scenes you might see moving forward in this comic book mini-series. Much like the video game, this comic book series is rated for mature audiences. Now, let the games begin. “Round 1. Ready. Fight.”

TEKKEN: Blood Feud #1 will be available on Wednesday, May 3, in print and digital form.
