This comic reminds me a good deal of the webcomic, Girl Genius. Both are set in sort-of-Steampunk worlds (though Girl Genius prefers the term “Gaslamp fantasy”) and both feature young female protagonists who are clever, ambitious, and just waiting to unlock their full potential. Also, both have absolutely fantastic artwork, which is essential in stories like this.

Delilah is a high school student in a future world with a vaguely Steampunk aesthetic. She wears an aviator jacket, scarf, and goggles and rides a motorcycle. Oh yeah, and she’s blue. Whether she’s an alien, some future iteration of human evolution, or something else entirely remains to be seen. Suffice it to say, it’s a pretty diverse world.

Delilah’s main ambition is to get into the ESA. There’s an entrance exam for admission, for which she’s been diligently studying and prepping for a long time; however, her dreams are thwarted when an actual dream, full of foreboding harbingers of things to come, causes her to oversleep and miss the start of the exam. Instead, though, she’s invited to a scientific demonstration of some new weather technology. This leads to a series of other events and hijinks which drive the rest of the issue.

Since this is only the first issue, details are still pretty sketchy. This world is obviously very different from the one we know, and though we’re given clues as to why and how, there’s still a lot that we have yet to make sense of. That’s okay, though. As I said before, the main appeal of this comic is the artwork.

The art by Joel Cotejar is highly detailed, featuring diverse characters, cityscapes, and all sorts of fascinating technology. It’s complemented by the vibrant coloring of Ramon Burge, which really brings this world to life.

I’m really interested to see where the comic goes from here. There’s obviously a lot of ground to cover and a lot of threads to follow, and no doubt even more threads will arise as the story goes on. It looks like it’s going to be a long and perhaps challenging journey, but it also promises to be a journey well worth taking.
