Has anyone else noticed that when franchises become too big, the creators only make them…bigger!!!

Well, that’s what’s happening in a specific dimension of New York City, and the timeline I’m referring to contains mutants and teenagers and pizza-loving ninjas.  Oh my!

In late August, three of the best writers in the comic book industry—Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow, and Tom Waltz—introduced us to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe.  As someone who’s been a TMNT fan since the beginning (I swear, I owned all the action figures as a child.), I enjoy comic book series like Universe, because they usually contain multiple storylines.

In our main story, April O’Neil has tried to enlist Baxter Stockman on their side.  But when an unknown mutant scorpion traps them both inside Stockman’s lab along with our heroes-in-a-half-shell, things get more than ugly.  Don is injured and knocked out.  The police think they’re in the middle of a war and want to kill all mutants that they cross paths with.  And we still don’t know who this scorpion is and why she has a vengeance against the Turtles!  Or perhaps she’s there to warn them.  She does seem to know something about their future…

But wait—there’s more!  Leonardo seems to be tripping on some sort of tranquilizer drug while trying to escape The Foot in his own short ongoing series, “Inside Out.”  And he’s after someone by the name of Koya…

Didn’t I tell you this series gets interesting!?  And most of the kudos go to writer Paul Allor for our main storyline, while Eastman, Curnow, and Waltz are the writers behind Leo’s solo story.  All artwork by Damian Couceiro and Bill Sienkiewicz, however, is stunning!  And with colors by Ronda Pattison and Tomi Varga, all four artists use a unique style of shading that make the entire comic book series feel one in the same.

Now, I’m just dying to know if Leo’s adventure will eventually become part of our main story, because if I know my TMNT creators well…it will!

Until next issue,
