Honeysuckle has arrived in Denver, only to find Dr. Rusted dead at what appears to be at the hands of a racist neighbor.  Not one to become a victim herself, she turns the tables on him when he makes an attempt on her life.

With nothing to keep her in Denver, she heads home to find Templeton and Marc are safe. Overjoyed, she and Marc begin the sad task of burying Yolanda and her mother. There are moments of happiness in their grief for their loved ones, but the outlook is bleak.  The United States has nuked the country they believe is responsible for this disaster. But crystal rain is getting worse and Ursula, Templeton’s mother, has been buried in her bedroom ever since Honeysuckle returned.  While Marc and Templeton play, Honeysuckle snoops through Ursula’s tablet. Scrolling through innocuous family photos, an idea begins to form in her head about the truth of the deadly rain, and it’s not a pleasant one.

This final issue brings together all of the pieces of who (and what) created the deadly rain. Placed expertly throughout the entire story, the clues were always there. I suspect if I had read all five issues together, I’d have figured out who the culprit and/or culprits were, but, nevertheless, it was a surprising and interesting turn of events. Heart-wrenching, this final issue hits home as we watch characters we’ve grown to like and respect desperately try to find hope.

I especially liked the art and lettering in this issue. Several of the splash pages gave us a sense of time and space, and how we fit into it. Page 19 did a particularly good job of not only that, but also how one character let grief overwhelm and define them.

I highly recommend the series. This issue also includes an introduction to the Haunted Universe by TP Louise and Ashley Wood.
