Rebels! Imperials! X-Wings! Tie Fighters! Spies! Sith! Lighsabers! These are the things that await anyone who picks up IDW’s Star Wars Adventures #12. This issue has 2 stories – one set in the original trilogy era and one set during the Prequel/Clone Wars era.
The first – “Squad Goals Part 2,” written by Caven Scott and illustrated by Manuel Bracchi – follows grounded rebel pilot Myrak. Myrak disobeys orders and attacks not only the ship hanger chief but Admiral Ackbar, as well. She then steals an X-Wing and flies off for a mission that will surprise the reader. This story is interesting and there are a lot of twists and turns. We see beloved characters, as well as a fun space battle. The art may not be as strong as it usually is in the Star Wars Adventures series, but this doesn’t negatively impact the story.
The second tale – “Give and Take,” written and illustrated by Andrew Lee Griffith – features a lengthy lightsaber battle between Jedi Aayla and the evil Ventress with the prize being data that will affect both sides. This story is tight in both the writing and art. It also has a surprise ending.
This book – like all issues of the series – is a fun romp through the Star Wars universe. Though intended for kids, it can be enjoyed by all. It’s always a pleasure to read.
