Dark Horse Comics’ Last Flight Out #3 continues the tale of planetwide apocalypse and humanity’s flight from Earth. This well-written and fantastically drawn story adds new depth to the established characters while introducing new ones.

Issue 3 follows scientist Ben Caewood as he tries to convince his daughter to leave the planet before Earth becomes uninhabitable. The story takes place in a deserted Chicago of the future, as well as through flashbacks to various locations. In this issue, we meet scientist Alex Drummond who was hired by Dr. Caewood several years earlier. They had many conflicts due not only to Caewood’s closed-off nature, but also by his cynical attitude towards life. In the future, in addition to dealing with his daughter, Caewood also has issues with the military people who have been assigned to keep him safe.

Last Flight Out #3, written by Marc Guggenheim and illustrated by Eduardo Ferigato, is great. This issue is more focused on character study than the previous two, but the story is really building into something special. As with the entire series so far, the writing, art, and coloring are outstanding.

Highly recommended 4 out of 4 stars
