The following is an interview with cosplayer Kristin Killtastic who will soon be appearing as a featured guest at Comic Excitement Convention in Los Angeles, CA, from January 14-15, 2017. In this interview, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon chats with Killtastic about her involvement with the convention, her process for selecting new cosplay characters, her upcoming projects, and more!

Barbra Dillon, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief: You will soon be participating in Comic Excitement Convention this January 14-15, 2017 at the LA Convention Center. How did you become involved in the show, and what are you most looking forward to about the event?

Kristin Killtastic: I actually was the one that emailed Comic Excitement Convention about guesting. I got an response almost immediately with details and what they offer. I took no time to accept. I am excited mostly for the $10,000 costume contest to see what everyone will be bringing to the table. I absolutely love being blown away by intricate and complicated cosplays!

BD: As a multi-hyphenate, you have worked as a cosplayer, artist, and gamer. How do you balance your various roles, and do you find that you often take on more than one role on any given project?

KK: I find myself constantly doing more than my body and mind can take on per project(s). I am able to balance work and cosplay, but balancing my other hobbies can be insanely difficult. I tend to blame my A.D.D. a lot, because I have the tendency to walk away or get distracted by something else.

BD: In what capacity will you be appearing at Comic Excitement Convention, and are there any particular projects that you will be promoting at the convention?

KK: I will not be promoting anything at this convention but my cosplay and my photographers work. Because it is an out-of-state convention, I will be traveling light which doesn’t give me much room to take part in the promoting process. Though I will be there representing Denver’s cosplay community.

BD: With regard to your cosplay, how would you describe your process in choosing and designing each new character that you portray?

KK: My process of choosing a character is very random. I try to go for the strong female type, but I end up falling into make a lot of fantasy armor for animal-like characters instead. Though when doing so, they usually are characters I loved for years and admire. I am not really big into getting the newest character from the latest movie type girl. I look for female characters that I favor a bit or have the same measurements as me. I try to make my cosplays as screen accurate as possible, unless it is one that I have complete creative control over.

BD: Are there any upcoming projects on which you are working that you would like to share with our readers?

2017 will be a year of Star Wars for me. I have 4 planned so far. I will also be stepping into the wonderful world of worbla in order to make high-quality armor cosplays and expand my skill and portfolio to a more professional level.

BD: Lastly, what would you like to tell readers who want to learn more about your work?

KK: I actually have started on my website, KristinKilltastic.com, and I usually post links to it on my Facebook page as well, “Kristin Killtastic.” Reader’s will be able to explore blogs, projects, photos, and more on either site!
