Hola! I know everyone has been waiting on pins and needles for my Wonder Woman film review, so I will torture you no longer!  Without further ado, here it is.

Let’s start off by saying Patty Jenkins deserves a huge round of applause for successfully pulling off what many deemed impossible. And a fist bump, and a high five, and a hug. I’m also pleased that this film was directed by a woman. I doubt anyone would dispute that statement. It had heart, strength, and beauty, and those are the building blocks of life.

Here come those darn spoilers!!!

Themiscyrica

Paradise Island (a.k.a. Themiscyria) was breathtakingly beautiful. The beach was majestic. The water crystal blue. Blue skies for days… well until they get to the dome of protection. The vertical architecture was very reminiscent of the way Phil Jimenez drew Paradise Island before he turned it into the floating version.

The Amazons      

The Amazons were freaking awesome! Beautiful, strong, and fierce as heck. I have always had a love/hate with Hippolyta in the comic. She seemed to leave Diana hanging one too many times, but I pretty much liked her in the film. I also liked the fact that most of the Amazons pronounced it differently.

Antiope and I go way back. Of course, I always loved her in the comic, and I first discovered model-turned-actress Robin Wright watching the long gone soap opera, Santa Barbara.

I loved all the horses, especially when one has an Amazon on his back. And the fight scene on the beach was almost as tense as the opening sequence of Saving Private Ryan.

I loved the actress who played young Diana. Most child actors tend to get on my nerves – that old VooDoo movie comes to mind. She was a cutie with just enough “stinker” in her to keep us entertained.

Chris Pine

Oh Steve Trevor. I’ve always liked Steve Trevor – the comic version, the TV version – and I absolutely loved the animated film version. As much as I loved Wonder Woman: Earth One, I’m eternally grateful Diana didn’t grab in between Steve’s legs to see what was going on. I hope they have Diana do flashbacks to Steve in the next film. And when Diana walked in on him naked, it was awkwardly wonderful. While I have adored most incarnations of Etta Candy (Earth one being my favorite, natch.), she was a little bit of a scene stealer this time around.

Wonder Woman

Where do I begin? She was beautiful, perfectly sinewy, and absolutely the heart of the film.

It was so great watching her discover her powers, but did they make her discover her super strength? You’d think that would be something you would be well aware of. Maybe Zeus threw a sleeper gene in the mix… like The Mutants over in The Marvel Universe.

I absolutely love her costume. It’s really come to grow on me. It seems like they brightened the primary colors a bit for this film. I’m a little torn about the tiara. As much as I miss the red star, this version just seems a much better match. I do however hope that they do variations over the next 5 films. The bracelets were cool, especially when in use. And the magic lasso was amazing. I was rather curious to see how the would handle it. And Steve did not handle it well at all. I was against the sword and shield up until its debut in this movie.
  
The action was major. I want to go to Amazon Training school (Hello, franchises!). I love how she slid on her boots into action. I really wanted her to say, “The party don’t start ’till I walk in,” but I’m so glad she didn’t.

Gal Gadot did such a great job. To paraphrase her phrase to the ice cream peddler, she should be very proud! I’m so happy she’ll be around for a while. We get her in JLA, too. I’m sure once again, Zack Snyder will handle her well. The parts where they went shopping for an outfit for “fish out of water” Princess Diana. I really can’t say enough how I fell head over heels for her in this flick. But then again that kind of already happened in BVS. I loved her wit charm and acting. She’s really got some chops. Her roundhouse kicks were sick. I kind of left the theater wanting to kick some butt.

All in all, I give it a thumbs up. Way up. I can hardly wait to see the sequel. Luckily we have JLA to tide us over. I guess that’s it for this week’s WWW. Be sure to come back next week for another compelling piece on all things Wonder Woman.
