Yesterday was International Women’s Day, but it’s never to late to celebrate women in my book.

Wonder Woman is herself, by definition, a celebration of women – a symbol of the strength and power of women for the past (almost) 75 years.

Wonder Woman was on the first cover of Ms. Magazine founded by feminist/activist Gloria Steinem in 197, a publication dedicated to the celebration of women’s achievements.

Women’s issues are as important and as relevant as ever. Jennifer Lawrence made a bold move speaking out for gender pay equality in Hollywood and was backed by her oft co-star Bradley Cooper.  From Joy to Mystique to Katniss Everdeen, Lawrence has played many a strong female character on the silver screen.

Hillary Clinton is poised to (possibly) be the first American woman president, and you can’t help but wonder what the heck took so long? Sadly, women’s rights have a long way to go.

I’ve always held a high respect and esteem for women. Of course, Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman was and will remain one of the most important women in my life.

A lot of my heroes have been women over the years. Oprah, Princess Leia, Maya Angelou, Madonna, Lady Gaga. All very empowered(ing) women IMO.

Then, there are the powerful women in my life. My mom, my aunt, my sister, and cousins. My partner’s mother – all Wonder Women in their own right.

The powerful women of comics I love and admire: Storm, Supergirl, Batgirl, Catwoman, Starfire . . . and many, many more.

Female-driven television shows are kicking butt right now: Jessica Jones, Frankie and Grace, and Orphan Black, among others.

And, I could hardly write this column without mentioning one of my favorite persons (who happens to be a woman), my editor here at Fanboy Comics, Barbra Dillon. She wears many hats and wears them well. Managing Fanboy Comics would be a job in itself, yet Barbra still has time for other things like playing Katniss Everdeen in The Katniss Chronicles, a podcast she produced. And, she manages to be the sweetest person on the planet.

Speaking of powerful women . . . only a few more weeks ’till we get to see Gal Gadot as WW on the big screen in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice!

I guess that’ll wrap up another Wonder Woman Wednesday for the week. Remember to celebrate the women in your life every day!
