“You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!” – Jack Nicholson, A Few Good Men
The line is oft repeated and classic cinema for sure, but does one take the time to ponder the parameters of said statement? Was this more telling than we believe? More prophetic than we care to admit? As a society, can we handle the truth?
The truth comes in all forms, doses, and variations these day. The media is responsible for filling out most of our truth.
What is the truth?
It seems for every truth, there exists a contradiction, depending on who you believe.
Why am I talking about this? And, what does it have to do with Wonder Woman Wednesday? The truth shall set you free.
I was thinking what it was about Wonder Woman that I liked so much? She’s brunette, so she doesn’t fill that role like most of my other icons, Madonna, Marilyn, Lady Gaga, Barbie… You get the picture.
I think it’s what Wonder Woman symbolizes that makes her so appealing. She’s the living embodiment of the truth. She was once The Goddess of Truth. Her magic lasso compels people to tell the truth.
So, what’s it to me? I guess I’m just a fan of the truth. As a fairly empathic person, I can tell when someone is lying to me and usually if their intention is ill will or harmless. “I like your haircut.” It’s hard for me to lie. I always get caught. Well, and the moral dilemma naturally.
I read recently that Pepsi admitted to bottling tap water as their purified water Aquafina. Stories like this bug the crap out of me. What’s with the deception? It seems like pulling the wool over people’s eyes is common place. Or the contaminated water supply in Flint Michigan. Where’s the moral compass?
Why do things with cheese or chocolate have to specify that they’re real? Why wouldn’t they be?
I guess the wisdom of things like that is to not take things for granted. It’s good to question things and ask for proof. Truth should be a right and not a privilege.
Wonder Woman is a symbol for good and purity. Righting wrongs. Always looking for a better way. And, that’s the truth.
There will always be deception. It’s the yin of honesty. But, that’s doesn’t stop us from seeking the truth. What is the truth? The truth is out there.
That’s a wrap. See you next week and, as always, “Like,” “share,” and “post” on “I Am Wonder Fan” Facebook page.
