RUPAUL PUTS THE MALE IN BLUEWATER’S FEMALE FORCE BIOGRAPHY COMIC

RuPaul Andre Charles is better known when he dresses in drag and entertains millions everyday as his over-the-top and fabulous alter ego RuPaul. Now the world’s most famous drag queen and reality show host will be featured in the latest issue of Bluewater Productions’ Female Force biography comic series.

Female Force: RuPaul, in stores in July, follows the self-described “Supermodel of the World” from his time as a time as a struggling musician and dancer through his first big break as a gender-bending drag queen in the B52s “Love Shack” music video. The issue will also cover his journey to fame as well as the outreach he does.

“RuPaul is bigger-than-life and can hardly be contained in the pages of a traditional comic,” said Bluewater president Darren G. Davis, “That’s why we expanded this issue to 40 pages.”

According to Davis, the decision to feature a male figure in the female-centric comic book stems from RuPaul’s refusal to be addressed as either. “He is comfortable in his own skin and is happy to let anyone within earshot know that. The fact he chooses his public persona to be female, emphasizes that he stays true to his own concept of self. And that solidifies RuPaul as a female force.”

The issue, written by Michael Troy and penciled Nathan Girten, also delves into RuPaul’s personal life as an openly gay performer and his many public trials and tribulations including the 1993 furor in upstaging and insulting legendary comic Milton Berle on live TV and his cult-like following for his reality show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”.

“I have been a huge RuPaul fan for years and I sashayed at the chance to be part of bringing him to comics!” Troy added.

Female Force offers a broad examination of strong and influential women who are shaping modern history and culture. In past issues, the monthly series has featuredMichelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Madonna, Cher, Oprah Winfrey, Stephenie Meyer, JK Rowling, Barbara Walters and others.

The comic book series, launched earlier this year, has drawn considerable media attention, including features on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, “The View” and “Live with Regis and Kelly.” It has also been featured in such periodicals as People Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, USA Today and thousands of blogs and other media outlets.

The suggested retail price (SRP) for the upcoming trade paperback is $7.99.

Female Force individual issues are also available on Amazon.com, where they have been ranked among the site’s top 300 books.
