Wonder Ellen MT“When you’re alone,
And life is making you lonely,
You can always go downtown.
When you’ve got worries,
All the noise and the hurry,
Seem to help, I know, downtown . . .”

So go the lyrics to Petula Clark’s famous pick-me-up song, “Downtown,” and the same could be said about Ellen DeGeneres’ feel-good afternoon talk show.  If you lost your job, your car won’t start, or your freakin’ hairdresser cut your bangs too short, Ellen can turn all of that around.

Sure, Ellen won’t cut your hair, put you to work, or give you a car (She’s not Oprah after all!), but watching her show is sure to turn every frown upside down.

Always starting her shows with music and laughter, Ellen exudes a kindness and warmth of heart that draws you right in.  Ellen is an everyman kind of woman.  Young, old, man, woman, or child, she seems to be loved by all.  Her unparalleled sense of humor and gentle ribbing always provide the most memorable interviews with her guests from 5-year-old Nicki Minaj groupies to 80 year olds with funny phone manners.  Ellen likes to surprise people.  It’s always a good laugh when she has a staff member dressed in a ridiculous outfit come out and scare the stuffing out of one her celebrity guests during an interview.  It is equally heartwarming when she offers assistance to a struggling family in need. (Thank goodness for that box of tissue on the end table!)

Ellen didn’t have an easy ladder to climb on the way to the top.  She faced some adversity after coming out as a lesbian. (Yep, she’s gay!)  Her sitcom was cancelled and her career languished in question mark territory.

Don’t call it a comeback!  It wasn’t long before Ellen DeGeneres dusted herself off and NBC gave her a chance to shine in her very own talk show, which proved to be a smash success!  Ellen found her glass Birkenstock and married her beautiful wife, Arrested Development‘s Portia de Rossi.

Ellen kicks off her 10th season on September 10th, and I congratulate her with this accompanying art portraying of Ellen in a Wonder Woman costume.  Two great chicks that go great together!  You’re a wonder, Wonder Ellen!  Ellen ends each of her shows by reminding us to be kind to one another.  Simple words with a resounding echo. Thanks for being an inspiration and bright spot in the universe, Ellen. You’re a good (wo)man, Charlie Brown!

P.S.  My boyfriend is trying really hard to get tickets to the show.

The Ellen DeGeneres show starts its 10th season on September 10th.  Be sure to check your local listings.

Michael Troy is a deeply superficial person. Born in the midwest in the ’70s, Michael came to Los Angeles to pursue his bi-polar career path as an actor and artist. 2005 saw the release of Michael’s first published book, Homo-Hero’s Big Book of Fun and Adventure (www.greencandypress.com). Michael has contributed to the Lady Gaga comic book from Bluewater Productions and has his hand in various other upcoming projects. Michael has performed stand-up comedy at all of the major comedy clubs in Los Angeles and is making his triumphant return to the main stage of The Comedy Store in September. Michael offers an off-beat sense of humor as the star of such youtube cult classics As The Gays on Film (www.youtube.com/fullfrontaltv), A Minute With Margot, a loving tribute to Superman legend Margot Kidder (http://www.youtube.com/user/rktcommander), and currently hosts a vlog style series Lethally Blonde over at www.monsterburg.com. Sitting alongside industry heavyweight Phil Jimenez at the “Divas and Lassoes” panel for the 2010 San Diego comic-con, Michael maintains and cherishes his “underground” status. A staunch believer in Blonde Ambition, Michael hopes his new comic about shallow blonde super heroes in Los Angeles, The Blonde Squad, will set the world on fire (or at least brighten it a bit). Check out Michael Troy and Lethally Blonde updates here!!!
