Here at Fanbase Press, we strive to provide an outlet for up-and-coming creators to promote and showcase their incredible works. With thousands of creators utilizing crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo to make those works a reality, we will highlight these talented creators and their noteworthy campaigns through #CrowfundingFridays! We hope that you will join us in giving these projects a moment of your time (and possibly your support)!

Project #1: Spectral: A Showcase of Fear

What it’s about: Back in 2017, we (writer David Accampo and artist Chris Anderson) were having some success at conventions with our small press books and Chris’ original art commissions. But we needed more content. And we needed it fast. So, we decided to strike out on our own and create a small-batch exclusive comic — in black, white, and red — that we could print and sell ourselves. Thus, DevilSkin was born: a horror comic that allowed Dave to tell an atmospheric short story and Chris to bring it to life with pen and brush, making each page as fine a piece of art as he possibly could. DevilSkin was a hit, and we quickly realized our “One-Shot Horror” could be a series. We made WitchHeart next, then WolfMoon… These comics have been a way for us to tell stories on our terms and to connect directly with our audience, including DollHouse, which began as an Instagram comic. And now we’re ready to take it to the next level with SPECTRAL: A Showcase of Fear. With six stories scripted, we decided we really wanted to collect these comics into single volume, designed with the same detail and passion as the individual comics. BUT: This Kickstarter doesn’t just bind together six short stories! We’ve created a framing sequence that introduces a brand new seventh character, the sinister and enigmatic PROFESSOR SPECTRAL, who rides into town with his traveling puppet theater, ready to delight children with his cautionary tales of devils, witches, wolves, and more. Professor Spectral is our own horror host, like Elvira, the Crypt Keeper, or the Creepshow Creep. He binds our stories together his puppets.

Project #2: Nosejob

What it’s about
: Nosejob is a two-part comic book story of the last rhinoceros in the world and the race between warring factions to protect, destroy, and mystically duplicate her. Will she succumb to the poachers? Be saved by the radical environmentalists? Or meet an altogether different fate at the hands of a mysterious mystic? Nosejob is written by Kevin LaPorte (Vicious Circus, Last Ride of the 4 Horsemen) and fully, lavishly illustrated (covers AND interiors) by Oscar Pinto (Heavy Metal, Vicious Circus Halloween Special). Letters are by Erica J. Heflin.

Project #3: In a Word: Trans

What it’s about
: In A Word: Trans the collection of popular, controversial, educational, and very personal works of Transgender Nonbinary artist Justin Hubbell (with a twist!) Modern comics (circa 2019) narrate the process, and Justin’s own transition! The book is perfect for folx learning about Trans issues. It’s also an excellent resource for Trans kids in need of comfort, kindness, and humor!
