Here at Fanbase Press, we strive to provide an outlet for up-and-coming creators to promote and showcase their incredible works. With thousands of creators utilizing crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo to make those works a reality, we will highlight these talented creators and their noteworthy campaigns through #CrowfundingFridays! We hope that you will join us in giving these projects a moment of your time (and possibly your support)!
Project #1: The Dust Pirates
What it’s about: The Dust Pirates is a swashbuckling, high-adventure graphic novel from the creative team of artists Tony Gregori (The Worst Dudes, Duece of Hearts, Ancient Noise), colorist Josh Jensen (Ninja Nuns), writers Kevin Cuffe and Bob Frantz (Metalshark Bro, Ninja Nuns, Spirit of 666), and editor/letterer Chas! Pangburn (Spider Kind, Metalshark Bro, RIP You and Me) This clever and canny 80-page original graphic novel is a reflection of modern society, tackling themes of the current social and political climate: the battle between proletariat and bourgeoisie.

Project #2: Hellbent
What it’s about: Co-written by DJ Wooldridge (Chaos Theory: Zombies vs. Dinosaurs Vol. 1 & 2) and LGBTQ+ counselor and academic Jayna July, with art by Heather Vaughan (Kids On Bikes, Unmatched: Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and colors by Ellie Wright (Betty Page Unbound), the thrilling 44-page comic follows Jezi, a trans woman with incredible supernatural powers, and Nick, a deadly arcane assassin, who must cross the country together with a cult of religious fanatics hot on their heels! A thoughtful exploration of belonging, prejudice, religion, and queer identity, with some ultra-violence, enchanted narcotics, and a well endowed horse demon along the way.

Project #3: HELP: The Hero Initiative Anthology
What it’s about: This collection captures how comic creators felt, and continue to feel, about giving and receiving help within their community via heartfelt stories that were created during a time of crisis. The HELP anthology project started shortly after state lockdowns for Covid-19 began to impact comic shops, and before it became clear just how widespread the effect would be on the comics industry, from shops, to publishers, to creative professionals with books on the schedule that would soon be put on hold or cancelled. Though the project was initially conceived of as a way to help specific comic shops, as time went on, talking with supportive charities, publishers, and creators helped inform the anthology and its goals. It became a way for creators to donate their time and skills in telling their own one-page stories on the theme of helping others while, ultimately, serving to raise money for those who might be in desperate need of help during these times.

Project #4: Zombie Date Night
What it’s about: A 32-page comic book that tells the story of: Boy matches with girl. Girl meets up with boy for a first date. Boy and girl face a ZOMBIE INVASION! From the messed-up brain of Steve Urena, the guy who brought you fast killer sloths (Slow Pokes) comes a romance horror-comedy that is full of zombies, romance, and even a grandmother fighting a horde with a chancleta. Drawn by Sergi Domènech, colored by Joe Jensen, lettered by Anthony Rella, and edited by Allegra Calderaro, this unforgettable reimagining of the zombie genre is a hilarious, action-packed thrill ride that will sink its teeth into you while leaving you on the edge of your seat.
