The Mad Ones, a touching indie comedy starring Anthony Gioe (Upright Citizens Brigade), Dana DeLorenzo (Ash vs. Evil Dead), and Lavrenti Lopes (Love, Lies and Seeta), will be coming to major VOD platforms, including iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and VUDU, on Tuesday, October 10th, 2017. The Mad Ones is a smart, funny, and heartwarming story about the friendship that forms between three young professionals searching for meaning in work and life.
Drawing on his experiences working in ad sales in the heart of Silicon Valley, writer and director – and former “Googler” – Aniruddh Pandit has crafted the film as a loving satire of millennial angst. The Mad Ones explores the unique subcultures of the digital age – from “entrepreneurettes” who get rich by monetizing their dating lives to utopian ad agencies where executives are given personal yogis. While navigating through these modern-day absurdities, the film drives towards timeless antidotes: love and friendship.
“I wanted the satire to be benevolent in nature,” Pandit says. “We all take tortuous courses to try and find meaning in the world. I believe a satirist’s job is not to tear down, but to lift up by inviting people to laugh at their own absurdities and make room for more honest ways of living.”
In the film, Ricky (Gioe) and Claire (DeLorenzo) have done everything right, but something feels very wrong. They’ve worked hard to earn meaningful jobs at ethical companies and surround themselves with open-minded-types who seem to have fully optimized their lives. But why do Ricky and Claire’s lives not feel as grand or as urgent as the lives of history’s more romantic idealists who had once been their true role models – those agitators and trailblazers who were “mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time…?”
An unexpected spark in the form of Nitin (Lopes), a meek colleague visiting from India, propels these intelligent, passionate young people into a raucous search for their place in the modern world.
DeLorenzo, Gioe, and Lopes are surrounded by a stellar supporting cast, including popular new comedic voices like Milana Vayntrub (Marvel’s New Warriors), Allan McLeod (You’re the Worst), and Lilan Bowden (Andi Mack). Bringing further realism to the satire, the cast also features non-professional actors like Mike Steib, the magnetic career guru and real-life CEO of XO Group, Inc. (NYSE: XOXO).
The Mad Ones will be available to rent and own on October 10, 2017, via iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, VUDU, myDish, Playstation store, Microsoft Movies & TV, and InDemand.
