‘TMNT Universe #10:’ Advance Comic Book Review

Well, it’s almost the end of the month, and you know what that means…

Yes, we have to pay rent, but it’s also time for another issue of TMNT Universe.

Last month, just when we thought we were rid of Kitsune and her evil ways, a relative of hers shows up—The Toad Baron.  After (literally) swallowing Angel and Alopex and inviting them to his hallucinogenic world of trickery and disguise, the Toad Baron refused to allow our heroes to leave…alive…

This month, however, in TMNT Universe #10, the Toad Baron doesn’t realize that Kitsune has messed with Alopex’s mind before, so she knows how to distract herself from other illusion distractions.  So, she and Angel do what they do best: They focus on what’s real.  Family.  Friends.  Their Past.  Why they fight.  These are things the giant toad can’t take away from them.  No one can.  And fighting turns out to be the best way to get thrown out of an extravagant party…

Meanwhile, Raphael’s pet dinosaur, Pepperoni, gets her mini-comic in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Pepperoni.”  But when your pet wakes from a nightmare and the first think she goes to grab is a weapon, you might want to watch out!

Congratulations to writer and illustrator Sophie Campbell who appears to make up half the team on this month’s issue.  As the main writer for the bulk of the storyline, and as the sole writer and illustrator for Pepperoni’s tale, Campbell is making a pretty big impression on this Turtles fan.  And with amazing company like legend Bobby Curnow and artist Pablo Tunica, I think it’s safe to say that this series is in excellent hands.  Or fingers, perhaps?

Let’s just hope that these storylines continue to mesh well with IDW’s ongoing TMNT series.  Universe is a great way to keep up with other characters as our favorite heroes-in-a-half-shell deal with their own cronies.

Until next issue,
#TurtlePower
