‘Lady Baltimore: The Witch Queens #1’ – Advance Comic Book Review

What do most horror fans gravitate towards? There are certain ingredients that most would agree with: monsters, witches, and ghosts. Each one of these on their own is intriguing, but all three together? Throw in the backdrop of the impending second World War, and the story is sure be something special.

Dark Horse’s new series, Lady Baltimore: The Witch Queens, combines many elements. From the first action-packed scene to the cliffhanger ending, this promises to be the start of something great. The story follows Sofia Valk, the widow of Lord Henry Baltimore (seen in the Dark Horse series, Baltimore). She battles the supernatural, gains allies, and investigates the mystery of her late husband’s ghost. While we have not seen any Nazis, they were mentioned enough times to let the reader know that they are on the way. Do you need to have read the previous series in order to understand the characters or the premise in the story? Absolutely not. Everything the reader needs to know is explained within the story.

This new limited series is written by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden and illustrated by Bridgit Connell. Lady Baltimore: The Witch Queens is a perfect series for any fan of horror and history. It is worth checking out…if you dare!
