‘TMNT Ongoing #76:’ Advance Comic Book Review

Well, it looks like I’ve done it again.  I’ve let my life get the best of me, and I missed the opportunity to review an issue for IDW Publishing’s ongoing comic book series for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

From last I remember, General Krang was being put on trial for genocide in a universe known as Dimension X.  Krang’s assassin, Hakk-R, was sent by Krang to try and stop the Turtles from finding those witnesses that would bring Krang to justice. But when the Triceratons—a race of special space fighters—host the Trial of Krang, their Planet Neutrino is attacked by the bug-like Malignoid race.

Meanwhile, Hakk-R tries to attack our heroes-in-a-half-shell while their friends are distracted, but leave it to Krang’s own witnesses to make a deal with the assassin and turn him against his master – at the right price, of course.  And Hakk-R’s not the only baddie who saves the day; leave it to Leatherhead to literally eat General Krang alive and escape with his brain-like cronies who plan to finish what Krang started.

Which brings us to TMNT #76: Invasion of the Triceratons, Part One.  After General Krang’s testimony during his trial in Dimension X, King Zenter has sent the Triceratons to reclaim Earth as their own after it was wrongfully taken away from them millions of years ago.  Just as our favorite reptiles return to their “home sweet sewer,” the Triceratons have already attacked their beloved New York City.  And it can only be a trap when Agent Bishop and the Earth Protection Force try to persuade the Triceratons into thinking that Earth will welcome them “home” once more.

Leave it to story writers Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow, and Tom Waltz to keep this series as action-packed as a Michael Bay film with each progressing issue.  As one story ends, these three don’t hold back with conflict as our heroes are thrown into the middle of another storyline.   And with exceptional artwork from Damian Courceiro and colors by Ronad Pattison, these issues remain consistent regardless of what’s being thrown at our pizza-loving friends.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see how the Turtles handle a reunion with not only their new friends from Dimension X, but their previously abandoned family, as well…

Until next month,
#TurtlePower
