‘TMNT Ongoing #67:’ Advance Comic Book Review

Do my eyes deceive me, Turtle fans?  It’s been waaaaaaay less than a month since our last issue of the ongoing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book series.  Maybe we can start to read more than one per month?  (wink, wink, Eastman, Curnow, and Waltz…)

Why, just a few weeks ago, in TMNT #66, Angel and Raphael traveled all the way to Alaska in search of their mutual friend, Alopex.  We even discovered that Raphael has a crush on Alopex, or at least I never picked up on his feelings in past issues.  But this time, Alopex was forced to fight her own demons—in this case—the mind-controlling Kitsune!  Meanwhile, the Earth Protection Force is after our mutants…all mutants…

This month is no exception for the EPF in TMNT #67, and I’m still not so sure that all of our mutant friends made it out of this issue alive!  Agent Bishop begins his revenge against all mutants by capturing everyone’s favorite mutanimal, Slash, all the while our heroes-in-a-half-shell are fighting amongst each other more so than their enemies.  But we also learn that the EPF and its efforts have a personal affect on Bishop, which could prove problematic for the Turtles, and especially dangerous for the mutanimals…

Leave it to writers Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow, and Tom Waltz to deliver a beautiful issue about what it takes to be a leader, and yet still leave our jaws gaping on the ground by the end of the comic.  While Leonardo struggles to lead his own brothers, Agent Bishop reveals the sacrifices he made to be a leader, and how—after finally reaching the top—he’ll never give up the power to lead until someone can finally stop him.  Throw in a mix of stunning artwork by Mateus Santolouco and colors by Ronda Pattison, and you have one of the best comic book storylines in the industry.

But without giving too much away, do I dare ask the question that will be on all of your mind’s after reading this issue…

Is everyone okay?!

Until next month,
#TurtlePower
